Sport and Exercise Psychology

Sport psychologists apply psychology as a science in:

  1. Sport, both competitive and non-competitive; at individual, team and organisational level;

  2. The exercise domain, encompassing individual and group training for health, fitness, enjoyment and wellbeing; and

  3. The field of motor skill research and human performance.


Sport psychologists may be involved in scientific research or practical, applied work into psychological aspects of sport, exercise and human performance.

The science of psychology can be applied to a whole range of sporting activities including educational, information, research and support services to Governing bodies, teachers, coaches, trainers, clubs, groups and individual participants in sport and exercise.
